Chicago is constantly producing talent. This is no secret. What's appreciable, is the fact that much of this talent is made up of young people. Meet LA LOCO! This artist is a gem! He has a very likable melodic range, relatable lyrics to many Chicagoans, and has a great ear for beat selection. This can be heard on songs like "Still Got It", "Switched Up", "Steppers", and more! We had the opportunity to ask him a few questions about his musical journey. Check it out!
ACE: How did you get the name LA LOCO?
LA LOCO: LA was a childhood nick name my homies gave me. The “L” stands for Lil, then the “A” is from my dad’s last name. Loco came from me being crazy, wild as a shorty, but now that I’ve grown up, I made an acronym for Loco and it stands for “Love Our Circle Only”.
ACE: Where are you from?
LA LOCO: I’m from North Chicago, IL
ACE: When will you release your debut mixtape/album
LA LOCO: February 3rd, 2022, I’m planning to have it done by then fasho
ACE: Is there anyone you would like to make a song with?
LA LOCO: Probably Lil Durk because I can relate to him the most right now.
ACE: How do you prepare for a video?
LA LOCO: I pick out a fit that I visualize for the scenes. I’ll probably play my song out loud before I leave my crib or my hotel room and practice what I’m gone do on this part of the song and how I’m gone look on this part of the song.
ACE: When did you start making music? What or who inspired you?
LA LOCO: I started rapping in 2006. I used to take my papa’s blank cassette tapes and re-record over them beating on a counter top and just coming up with words that rhyme. I would say 50 Cent, at the time, inspired me to rap. I was 11, but I knew I was gangsta already; I knew what I wanted to be and who I wanted to be like.
ACE: What are your short term and long term goals?
LA LOCO: Short term, I want to be able to have a steady income legit, but big not petty money, enough to where I don’t have to stress about what I have to do tomorrow. Long term, I want to give back to my community. I want to start teaching kids more about history and hopefully be moved out the state with kids and have my own record label.
ACE: Do you write your songs or freestyle them?
LA LOCO: I write my songs.
ACE: Is there anything about yourself that you would like people to know?
LA LOCO: I’m 26 years old. I spent over 10 years in the jails. I’m back and better, talented and optimistic about what the future has for me. I’m very humble and laid back. Loyalty means everything to me.
